Was machst du heute? What are you doing today??

Los geht's!:

**Note: For the tasks under number 2) below, please type your answers on a word file and print them out for me by the end of the period. If you are not finished at that point, please hand me what you do have.**

1) Using the maps on the front of your textbook and websites online, complete and check the accuracy of the maps from Freitag. In addition, Herr Graff will give everyone a separate map on which you can draw the Bundesländer, the German states, if your map is getting way to crowded.

2a) Was ist ein UNESCO-Welterbe? What is a UNESCO World Heritage Site? If you haven't heard of the concept, make an educated guess. If you have heard of the concept, write what you know, or if you have been to one of these Sites..

2b) Once you've done (2a), proceed to http://whc.unesco.org/en/about/ and skim the reading for the following information:
--What kinds of places and human creations fall under the term "World Heritage"?
--What does UNESCO stand for?
--What is UNESCO's mission? Paraphrase in one or two sentences.

2c) On the World Heritage Site, click on "The List".
--What kinds of world heritage sites do we have in our country?
--Find two you'd like to visit some day or have already been to.

2d) Proceed to the following website: http://www.unesco-welterbe.de/en/index.html
--Using the menu located on the bottom left, find the German World Heritage Site you
were assigned. Determine the following information about your site:
--What kind of site is it? (manmade vs. nature, church or statue, etc)
--Why is it important enough to be a World Heritage Site? What's so interesting about it? (If you're not sure, ask Herr Graff to point you in the right direction.) Gather interesting facts about the site which will help your classmates make a connection to it. (4-8 facts)
--What Bundesland is it in? What is the nearest big city?
--Be sure to label the site on your maps.

**Tomorrow in class, each of you will give us a short introduction to your German World Heritage Site.**
